WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Two towels (one to sit on in the sauna, one to dry off).
Swimwear (whatever you feel comfortable in).
Flip-flops, sandals or sliders (optional).
A water bottle (we have drinking water).
HOW LONG IS EACH BOOKING?
Private hires in the Bristol, Bath & beyond area are booked for 24 hours, or longer by arrangement. Once we’ve set up, it’s totally down to you how long you choose to sweat it out. We provide enough eco-logs to keep the stove going for c4 hours. More fuel can be purchased from us at very reasonable rates.
In the Porthcurno pop-up site, you book for your ideal start/entry time. This allows you to use the sauna & plunge pools for up to an hour (we recommend you arrive c10 minutes early). After that, you are welcome to stay & relax in the garden for as long as you like. There really is no rush, we love to have your company.
WHAT IS A SAUNA TENT LIKE?
Honestly, it’s lovely. Peaceful, comfortable, with the crackle of a wood-fire, surrounded by friends long & new, within the beautiful location of your choice. Our PortaSauna KabinXL reaches 80-90C in an hour, then retains that lovely heat for as long we take care of the gentle flames in the efficient stove.
We’ve added a few special touches (like decent flooring & custom benches) that help to make the sauna feel even more functional & luxurious.
If you’re worried about things like ventilation or off-gassing, please rest assured that safety is absolutely key for us & the tent passes all those tests with flying colours.
DO YOU HAVE CHANGING ROOMS?
At Porthcurno, yes, we do have individual changing cabins & lockers to stash your stuff.
For private hires, we anticipate that you will have your own places to get changed but we can chat about your needs during the booking.
DO YOU HAVE COLD PLUNGES?
Yes! We have X plunge baths with chillers & filters. They’re an integral part of our contrast therapy offering - though you don’t have to use them if they’re not your thing.
ARE SHOWERS AVAILABLE?
Yes, cold showers are part of the package. Please shower before using the plunge pools.
DO YOU HAVE TOILETS?
At Porthcurno, there are public toilets just a few yards away in the car park, or in the museum. We recommend that you pop in there before joining us in the garden spa.
We currently don’t provide toilets as part of the private hire package.
ARE REFRESHMENTS AVAILABLE?
For private hires, we can offer any drinks you request, with an emphasis on 0% beers, mocktails, kombucha & CBD drinks. Just ask us at the time of booking & we’ll work out a good deal.
Drinking water is available in Porthcurno & there are multiple outlets in the valley, from the excellent museum cafe to KoffiPK van in the car park (to whom we are eternally grateful).
We don’t cater for food at the moment.
IS CLOTHING OPTIONAL?
During private hires, the space is yours to enjoy how you like. So please wear bathers if you prefer, or feel free to be free. We even offer complementary birthday suits with every booking.
At Porthcurno, we currently ask that you keep your swimmer bottoms on, although we may offer naturist sessions at a later date.
ARE WE PET FRIENDLY?
Our rescue Ibizan Hound, Monte, loves to lounge in our garden sauna tent at 80degrees, so for private hires we trust you to know what’s best for your pet.
At Porthcurno, though, we ask that animals don’t join us in the garden spa area, as we just want every visitor to feel as relaxed as possible.
IS THERE PARKING AT PORTHCURNO?
Yes, lots! There is a large car park right by our location in the gardens of PK Porthcurno Museum.
Please be aware, though, that the car park can get VERY busy, especially in the afternoons. So we have a very limited number of parking spaces that are exclusively for use of SaunaPop@PKcornwall visitors. These can be booked for up to 3 hours on the booking form.
IS SAUNAPOP WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Absolutely. It’s important to us that anyone who might enjoy sauna is able to use our spaces. Access to the whole site & the sauna itself is step free.
The sauna tent has a wide door that most wheelchairs fit easily through. We can move the benches to make room (a head’s up is useful before you’re visiting, please). Any questions, please do get in contact.
DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS/CARER TICKETS?
Yes. If you need a carer to help facilitate your sauna, then please just book them a free ticket on the SaunaPop@PKcornwall booking site. We offer reduced rate tickets for Blue Light…. / refugees / under 21s.
CAN I CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE?
Yes – so long as you do it at least 7 days (for private hires) or 24 hours (for Porthcurno) in advance. Less than those 7 days / 24 hours' notice is non-refundable & non-reschedulable.
